  • Volunteer Experience

  • Guide Dogs of America has volunteer opportunities in the following areas

  • Administration – examples include: Mailings, copying, clerical, merchandise inventory, greeting guests on graduation day, tour guides, outreach tables, computer/IT, photography/videography, event support

    Event Planning – examples include: Assist staff in gathering vendor information, phone calls, keeping registration list updated on computer, creating signs, making goodie bags

    Event setup and tear-down – examples include: Physically fit people to assist with setup and tear-down at events such as graduation, GDA’s Open House, and fundraisers.

    ** Kennels – examples include: Work alongside staff and assist with the daily tasks of keeping the kennels clean and dogs enriched and fed. On campus activities include community play groups, individual walks on campus, individual off leash play time, grooming/brushing, and quiet cuddle time!

    Marketing – examples include: Assist staff in promoting the school via flyers, brochures, assist with reports, solicit information (requires computer/Photoshop work)

    ** POOCH Program Furlough Volunteer (open ONLY to prison employees) – examples include: fostering a service dog in training for a week or weekend from one of our prison training programs. Note: **prisons are in Ione, CA & San Diego, CA

    ** Puppy Department – examples include: Cleaning and feeding 7-8 week old puppies as well as keeping them safe while they discover our adventure land area, socialization, observation of puppy behaviors, sanitizing play area, teaching puppies to play appropriately with people and littermates, bathing puppies before they go to their new foster family.

    ** Puppy Nursery – examples include: Assist in caring for newborn pups up to 7 wks old, assist in whelping (must be willing to spend the night at the puppy nursery), clean, mop kennels, help socialize puppies

    ** Vet Department – examples include: Assist Vet Assistant with routine puppy exams, file reports, make phone calls as instructed, maintaining cleanliness of the exam room Note: ** indicate 6-month minimum commitment
